The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine (ABM) has published a position statement on informal breast milk sharing for the term healthy infant January 8, 2018 in the journal Breastfeeding Medicine. The statement discusses two important strategies, in particular, to maximize the safety of community-based breast milk sharing, including medical screening of the donor and safe milk handling practices.
